Central Credit Register

Information for small and medium enterprises in or facing financial difficulty

To assess a loan application Arklow Credit Union may check the member's credit standing with the Central Credit Register (“CCR”). Furthermore, the member's loan repayment record will be sent to the CCR for the lifetime of the loan. Therefore, this record will be visible to other lenders who access those credit registers.

The legal basis under GDPR which the credit union is relying on to perform the above are Legal Obligation, in relation to CCR checks required by law, and Legitimate Interests in respect of other CCR checks. It is in the credit union’s legitimate interests to perform such checks before approving any loan application and committing to communicating your repayment record to the CCR throughout the lifetime of your loan.

CCR is using Legitimate Interests as the legal basis for processing of your personal and credit information. These Legitimate Interests are the promotion of greater financial stability by supporting a full and accurate assessment of loan applications, aiding in the avoidance of over-indebtedness, assisting in lowering the cost of credit, complying with and supporting compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, enabling more consistent, faster decision-making in the provision of credit and assisting in fraud prevention.
